Donating for Haiti Relief

As I'm sure you have all heard by now, there was a very large earthquake in Haiti on January 12, 2010. It was a 7.0 magnitude earthquake. Since then, they've also had many aftershocks, one of which was a 6.1 magnitude early this morning.

I had a friend who was there when the first earthquake happened. She was able to get a flight back to the United States a few days later. I also had friends who were supposed to be going there on a missions trip. That was cancelled because of the destruction.

There have been many teams from around the world that have moved in to help with the search for survivors and all the medical attention that is needed for the survivors. I received information from one such organization, International Medical Corps, who has teams in Haiti performing all kinds of medical procedures. They are a Better Business Bureau certified charity.

Some information directly from Ellie at International Medical Corps:

International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization, founded by volunteer doctors and nurses and dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through relief and development programs. Our emergency response team is in Haiti responding in force. There are still thousands of patients seeking treatment of which approximately 80% are in need of surgery and are running out of time - especially with the tremendous aftershocks still devastating this country. The team is treating crush injuries, trauma, substantial wound care, shock and other critical cases with the few available supplies - And they're in it for the long haul.

If you would like to donate, you can visit International Medical Corps' web site. They several ways to donate.

Most of all, I'd ask that you keep the people of Haiti, and all of those that responded to the need there in your prayers. It's going to be a very long road to recovery for Haiti.
